This new mapping tool helps us take a big-picture look at the Manuherekia catchment by pulling together existing information like land slope, soil type, water flow, and land use. It then layers this information to highlight where potential issues might occur, such as erosion or nutrient loss, and suggests practical solutions to manage them. The tool doesn’t give fine detail, but it provides a clear, easy-to-understand map using symbols and colour codes (like a traffic light system) to show areas of higher or lower concern. Farmers can click on a location to see what the likely issue is, what extra checks might be useful, and what actions could help. It’s all about helping landowners see where investing in improvements would make the biggest difference.
