The Thomsons Catchment Project is led by farmers that aim to improve the water quality in the catchment
We are linked to the wider Manuherekia Catchment Exemplar Project and funded by the Ministry for the Environment’s Jobs for Nature programme.
With Manuherekia, we are part of the Otago-wide network of catchment groups supporting the on-farm change that is building towards environmental resilience and vibrant communities. Although the Thomsons Catchment Project officially launched in October 2022 following several years of planning and obtaining consents, such was the enthusiasm of our farmers and others in the community that our first hands-on work got underway a month prior with more than 600 carex secta plants going into the ground.
