Buster Creek

Landowner: Andrew and Tracy Paterson

As part of our Waiora Manuherekia project, we worked alongside the landowners of Matakanui Station, our support focused on providing fencing materials across three wetlands on the property, with the landowners completing the construction themselves. At this wetland, Buster Creek, this meant installing 1.2 km of new fencing, ensuring that stock are now permanently excluded from the waterways.

One of the main challenges at this site was the presence of crack willow, which was carefully removed to restore natural water flow and reduce shading impacts on native species. To further encourage recovery, we undertook pockets of native planting, helping to kick-start natural regeneration and improve biodiversity within the wetland.

Through these combined efforts, Buster Creek is now better protected and set on a path towards long-term ecological health.
