Becks Creek

Landowner: Chris and Jamiee Pemberton

The Becks Creek wetland was heavily invaded by dense layers of crack willow, which had taken over much of the ecosystem. As part of the Waiora Manuherekia project, aerial spraying was carried out by helicopter to control the willows, and their gradual removal will be undertaken by the landowner over time.

To protect the integrity of the waterway, fencing materials were supplied to exclude stock and prevent ongoing damage. Restoration efforts were further supported through generous native planting. Habitat Restorations Aotearoa completed part of this planting work, while the remainder was provided as supply-only plants, which the landowner then established themselves.

These combined actions are helping to restore Becks Creek as a healthier, more resilient wetland, supporting native biodiversity and improving water quality for the future.
